Now, this new path of income generation lends itself to more of a reliance on shorter-term gigs to generate income rather than a lifelong career (whether with one or many companies) and less reliance on the safety net of pensions, savings, home equity, etc. While this picture of the future might sound terrifying, it is an opportunity to take more control of our career destiny by developing assets (physical products, services, connections, etc.) that can be weaved together and monetized over time, thus generating multiple streams of income. But make no mistake, we will have to be much more active in this than generations before.
